The littlest spark....
I’d had the idea for this book for quite some time (years actually), but when I finally sat down to start it, I found that I was lacking a little direction. In the early part of 2010, my father-in-law was up at our weekend home in the Sierra Foothills; his mother lived a few miles away and had been ill, so he and I were spending a week up there to help in her recovery (my darling husband was stuck in the City working).
After a rather long and arduous day getting Grandma settled, he and I retired to our living room for a well deserved cocktail before turning in for the night. We were both very tired, but Dear old Dad was especially beat. As we sat there he started to nod off, in a sleepy voice he suddenly said “stay away from the green building on the left”.
That simple and mysterious statement stuck with me and I spent a sleepless night letting it wander through my mind, waking early and making notes that would eventually turn my previous idea into my current book. I’d originally named the book The Green Building on the Left, but after discussion with my publisher we decided to change it to the Doppelganger Experiment. I did finally ask my father-in-law what he meant, but he had no recollection of saying it, that too helped spur the story on. The smallest thing can spark the imagination and I look for those sparks everywhere I go.
Inspiration....
I am blessed with a wonderful family whose constant encouragement has kept me going. But one member has been exceptionally inspirational, her advice and knowledge has been invaluable. She is best selling Irish author and artist Sharon Owens, she has written 7 books (Penguin UK) and her artwork can be seen on her website
Sharon sends her readers on a wonderful journey through the lives of her characters and often through the streets of Belfast. Her work is romantic, funny, full of life's ups and downs, and always inspiring and warm. Her stories beg for a hot cup of cocoa, a cozy chair and a warm fire. I can’t recommend just one of her books, I’ve enjoyed them all and so I must recommend them all.
Please visit her website for upcoming books and art. Her books are also available on Amazon.com
